Microarray Analysis of Genes Expressed in Brassica napus Stigma

Abstract: Genes expressed in stigma were screened for a pollination-deficient mutant FS-M1 in Brassica napus and its wild type (NY10) by using B. napus gene microarray. Among the 16 540 genes (43 803 probes) represented on the array, 4 410 showed significant differential expression; the differential expression of selected genes was validated by qRT-PCR. We identified 198 genes (209 probes) that were significantly upregulated in the wild-type stigma and were markedly enriched in function of hydrolase activity, transferase activity, oxidoreductase activity and transcription factors, and some considerable gene families were involved, including cytochrome P450, GDSL-motif lipase, ABC transporter, myb transcription factor, bHLH transcription factor, peroxidase and receptor kinase, which may be related to development and pollination of B. napus stigma.
