Abstract: In 2005, the International Rice Genome Sequencing Project conducted by a multi-country consortium of research institutes, has published the reference genome sequence of Oryza sativa subsp. japonica cv. ‘Nipponbare’. Recently, Chinese scientist generated high-quality genome sequences of two elite indica rice varieties Zhenshan 97 and Minghui 63, which will have important implications for functional genomics studies and molecular breeding in indica rice.
