Abstract: Mechanisms of plant developmental programmed cell death (PCD) have been intensively studied in recent years. PCD is important for the formation of structure and differentiation of plants. Plants possess a unique process of PCD execution that depends on vacuolar lytic function. Comparisons of the developmental PCD mechanisms of plants and other organisms are providing important insights into the detailed characteristics of developmental PCD in plants.
