Abstract: Antisense RNA molecules deactivates target gene by binding to the sense strand. This allowed the application to the molecular alteration of flower color. To date, 3 kinds of genes have been transformed into 14 cultivars for this purpose and transgenic plants with color-altered flowers have been obtained. This paper briefly reviews the progress of antisense RNA technology and its use in flower color improvement.
