Abstract: Health hazard concern regarding chemical residues on food has enhanced interest of finding effective alternative to pesticides to control postharvest diseases of fruits and vegetables. Recently, biological control proved to be an effective alternative to synthetic fungicides and has been an emerging mode to utilize antagonistic microorganisms to control postharvest diseases. Biological control includes the use of (1) antagonistic microorganism, (2) natural plant_and animalderived fungicides and (3) induced resistance, which are available for developing safer technologies for postharvest disease control. This paper presents some of the novel approaches for the control of postharvest diseases of fruits and vegetables and suggests new lines of research that could pave the way for the development of safer technology for postharvest disease control.
