Abstract: This paper takes the Southern University of Science and Technology as an example, introducing the construction of two digital new media resources—"SUSTech VR Campus Plants" learning system and the "SUSTech VR Campus Plants" WeChat official account. It explores their application and feedback in botanical teaching. The application of new media resource extends the study of botany from the classroom into daily life, combining classroom instruction with field observation. It enables students to recognize plants firstly and then deeply understand their characteristics and features, thereby stimulating learning interest, enhancing self-directed learning abilities, and improving their learning efficiency. The two new media platforms had also conveniently benefited a wide range of plant enthusiasts, meeting their demand for botanical science popularization. Utilizing campus plants to construct digital new media resources for botanical teaching is replicable and can serve as a valuable reference for other universities.
