Abstract: Abscisic acid (ABA) regulates various physiological processes of plant growth and development, besides mediating adaptive responses to diverse environmental stresses. Great effort has been made in detecting ABA perception sites, identifying the specifically binding-protein(s) and cloning the receptor gene(s). An RNA-binding protein, FCA and a Mg-chelatase H subunit, CHLH, had been recently identified as two ABA receptors in controlling plant flowering time and regulating seed germination seedling growth and stomatal movement, respectively. This article summarizes the practical approaches employed in exploring putative ABA receptor(s) and discusses the prospects for future investigations.
