Abstract: In greenhouse, vegetative tea seedlings were inoculated with AM fungi Acaulospora lavis(strain NO. 34), Glomus manihot (strain NO. 38) and Glomus caledonium (strain NO. 90036) to study the effects of AM on the growth of vegetative tea trees and the quality of tea. The pot experiment lasted 14 months. The results indicated that AM promoted the growth of vegetative tea seedlings, not only plant height but also aboveground and underground weights, moreover, the differences between inoculated and uninoculated (CK) tea tree was s ignificant at 0.1% level. AM increased uptake of tea tree to norganic elements, especially to P, Ca and Mg. The numbers of bacteria and actinomycetes and activity of acid phosphatase in rhizosphere of inoculated tea tree were increased. The important was that the concentration of water_soluble substances, amino acids, coffeine and polyphenols in tea leaves were increased by AM, indicating that th e quality of tea was improved.
