Abstract: Using leaves of Lycium barbarum L. as explant to induce somatic embr yogenesis. The DNA in somatic embryos of Lycium barbarum L. were ana lysed using quantitative stereological procedure formed from cell morphometry. The results indicated that the quantity of DNA changes during somatic embryogenesis. The quantitive value of DNA was 1.82% and 1.92% respectively in nonembryonic cells and the embryonic; during bicellular stage, quadracellular stage and multicellular stage, content of DNA increase slowly, and reach the peak at pear-shap ed embryonic stage keep high level at mature embryonic stage. We concluded that dynamic changes of DNA has close relationship with embryogenesis and cell reproduction.
