Abstract: The advance of the studies on culture and molecular biolgy of Spirulina was commented. It was indicated that (1) biological characteristics of the algaes, which have been cultured mostly in open raceway ponds and partly in closed loop bioreactors which would help to develop theindustry of the algaes, had been investigated most extensively. (2) The relation between structure and function of the biological active substances of the algae have received most attentions (3) Application of the technology of molecular biology would stimulate the study of algology and the exploitation of algal resources.
