Abstract: Selecting the cold-resistence plants is an important problem in the breeding of walnut. The result of a study of about 29 strains of 15 varieties of walnut that were introduced from Roma Fruit Institute of Italy showed: the weight of one single leaf was different among varieties, the highest weight varieties were Franquette and Serrento. There was a significant difference in the CTR among the different varieties’ leaves: the highest were the 3 trains of Corne, their CTR> 50%; that of strains of the Franquette were of medium (CTR=40%~50%) and the Teharma were the lowermost (CTR<40%). The varience of the cell membrane permeability (CMP) changes less inter the varieties which had a forciable cold-resistence than that the feeble cold-resistence varieties. These two terms may be taken as two pre-selecting indications for the identification of variety on cold-resistence of walnut strains.
