Wheat X maige Hybridization and Wheat Haploid Production

Abstract: The various cultivars or lines of wheat (Triticum aestivum L. 2n=42) were used as the female parent in crosses with maize cultivar Suyn No. 4. (Zea mays L, 2n= 20) Wheat ovary swolled when sprayed with 100ppm 2,4-D post pollination. The rate of swollen ovary varied with the different rarieties. The infantile embryos obtained from the part of the swollen ovaries grew up to be a wheat haploid plants, by embryo culture. These plants are all sterile.
