Abstract: This paper reviewed the relationship between plant cytoplasmic male sterility（CMS） and energy metabolism, the structure and number of mitochondrion, mitochonrial DNA polymorphism, the transcription of mitochonrial genes as well as the difference of mitochonrial polypeptides. The progress on mitochonrial genes associated with CMS, molecular mechanism of CMS induced by these genes have also been discussed.
