Abstract: "Yemoli" was derived from a book of the Qing dynasty" The Illustrations of the Plant Names". It was once used as the Chinese family and genus name of Styracaceae and Styrax, and it is now still used as the Chinese name of S. japonica. But through the textual research, the original plant of “Yemoli” was found to be “four-oclock”( Mirabilis jalapa ) in a book of Ming dynasty “The Manual of Grasses and Flowers”. So it is right and reasonable to correct the Chinese family and genus name of Styracaceae and Styrax as “Anxixiang” .Now that “Yemoli” is a false name, it should not be used any longer as the Chinese name of the species or varieties of Styracaceae and Styrax. It is suggested therefore that the Chinese names for S. japonica and var. colycothrix and S. grandiflora be corrected.
