Abstract: Germination tests were performed on Fraxinus velutina and Melia azedarach seeds in saline and non-saline land under different NaCl stress. The germination indexes and biochemical indexes of the seedlings were measured to study the differences in germination abilities and protective enzymes. The salt resistance of F. velutina was better than that of M. azedarach seeds and the former was much fitter for cultivation in saline than the later. The germination abilities of the 2 kinds of seeds from non-saline land were better than those from saline land; the more NaCl stress, the stronger vigor of F. velutina, and vice versa with M. azedarach. But the activity of protective enzymes and content of soluble protein of seeds from saline land were higher (F. velutina seedlings had the highest activity) and the content of MDA was less (F. velutina seedlings had the lowest content) than those of seedlings from non-saline land.
