Abstract: This review focused on the developments of plant synthetic seed technology in the past 20 years, and summarized different items on artificial seeds: the concept, significance, status, application prospect, induction and synchronization of somatic embryogenesis, the way of encapsulating, artificial coat, maturation drying, storage and preservation, etc. With our studying on Dendrobium candidum synthetic seed, existing problems and further development were also discussed.
