Abstract: Various celeriac explants were in vitro cultured on MSO media added different ingredients in order to induce high quality somatic embryos suitable for making artificial seeds. The hypocotyls, cotyledons and leaf blades produced embryonic calli when incubated on MSO media containing 0.5mg /L 2,4-D and 0.5mg/LKT; and these calli were subcultured; then the calli were turned to hormone-free MSO media added with 100mg/L myo-inositol and 2g/L glucose, and suspension-cultured. A lot of somatic embryos were produced, the appearance and development were more normal than those produced in liquid media containing KT or on solid media. The results above may be used for artificial seed making.
