Abstract: To evaluate the genetic diversity and population structure of wheat germplasm in the far east of Russia and Heilongjiang Province of China, we characterized a set of 56 accessions of spring wheat from Russia and 56 strains of spring wheat from regional and production tests in 2010 from Heilongjiang province using 31 single-sequence repeat primers. The germplasm resources were divided into 2 clusters, which agreed with their geographical origin. Highly significant variance was found for both populations and individuals. The level of genetic differentiation was high and the gene flow was low. We found close genetic distance among strains in the same breeding institutions of Heilongjiang province, so the genetic resources must be broadened. The genetic relationship and diversity of wheat are closely associated with their geographical origin and selection pressure by humans.
