Abstract: Seedlings of wheat (Triticum aestivum) were exposed to He-Ne laser irradiation with 5 mJ.s-1.mm-2 power density, enhanced UV-B radiation (10.08 kJ.m-2.d-1) and the combined treatment of He-Ne laser irradiation and enhanced UV-B radiation. From day 5, changes of Na+/K+-ATPase activity in mitochondria, chloroplasts and cellular solutes were measured to determine the effects of He-Ne laser irradiation and UV-B radiation on wheat. Na+/ K+-ATPase activity in mitochondria, chloroplasts and cellular solutes of wheat seedlings was reduced at day 6, increased at day 7, then gradually decreased with treatment days . At day 7, He-Ne laser irradiation resulted in increased activity of Na+/K+-ATPase in mitochondria, chloroplasts and cellular solutes of wheat seedlings . The activity of Na+/K+-ATPase was reduced under UV-B radiation. The Na+/K+-ATPase activity in various organelles by combined treatments was greater than the activity with UV-B radiation. All these results suggested that damage to wheat seedlings induced by enhanced UV-B radiation in terms of activity of Na+/K+-ATPase in various organelles can be repaired in part by He-Ne laser irradiation.
